Arrest made at Waldron location. Roads still closed but will be open once the target residence has been cleared.

At 1:11 PM on Thursday, August 10, 2017, Anchorage Police responded to the 2300-block of Waldron Drive in reference to an injured male. Police made contact with that person outside; he was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police learned the suspect was located in a home with at least one other person. The situation was treated as a hostage situation as we did not know the condition of the other people in the home with the armed suspect.

At 2:00 PM SWAT arrived on the scene and began negotiations with the suspect. At 3:17 PM the suspect and another adult female came out of the residence without incident and were taken into custody. Neither of them were injured. No one else has been located inside the house.

The suspect is 50-year-old Darin Lee Jones. APD had issued a press release in regards to him on August 9th as he was wanted for a felony probation warrant. Jones will be remanded on that warrant and he will have additional charges associated with today’s incident. Jones is believed to be the one responsible for shooting the victim taken to the hospital.

The relationship between Jones, the victim, and the adult female is still unknown. The female is currently being questioned; we have not yet confirmed whether she was a hostage or not. We have also not yet confirmed who the home belongs to and whether or not any of the three adults live there.

Over three dozen APD employees were at the scene for the road closures and perimeter. Lake Otis between Dowling and Tudor is shut down as well as the area surrounding 50th and Waldron. Once SWAT has finished clearing the involved residence and property, those roadways will be opened up.
