1612 – The Battle of Swally takes place, which loosens the Portuguese Empire’s hold on India.
The naval Battle of Swally, also known as Battle of Suvali, took place on 29–30 November 1612 off the coast of Suvali (anglicised to Swally) a village near the Surat city (now in Gujarat, India) and was a victory for four English East India Company galleons over four Portuguese galleons and 26 barks (rowing vessels with no armament).

1843 – Gertrude Jekyll, British horticulturist and writer (d. 1932)
Gertrude Jekyll (/ˈdʒiːkəl/ JEE-kəl; 29 November 1843 – 8 December 1932) was a British horticulturist, garden designer, craftswoman, photographer, writer and artist.[1] She created over 400 gardens in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States, and wrote over 1,000 articles[1] for magazines such as Country Life and William Robinson’s The Garden.[2] Jekyll has been described as “a premier influence in garden design” by British and American gardening enthusiasts.[1]
