The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert is unlike anything I have read in recent years. Fantasy lovers looking for something quite out of the ordinary should not miss this fantastic story from an author who is sure to make a name for herself.

Reading and new puppies do not mix. Plus, the books I had in the queue this week were dense, requiring careful and slow reading. They were all so very, very good though so I did not mind in the least!

That’s What She Read: The Night Child should come with a warning label

The Night Child by Anna Quinn is a tough novel to read but is the perfect reminder that not only can things be worse but that things will get better.

My Thoughts: The Night Child should come with a warning label. This is not only because Anna Quinn’s debut novel deals with repressed memories and the reasons for them. It is also because Ms. Quinn’s writing is so hauntingly beautiful that it is as emotionally dangerous as anything else the novel holds. In fact, many scenes are almost poetic in their sentence structure and ability to convey so much in a few short words. This is especially true of later scenes as Nora begins to question her sanity.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson far surpasses what Ms. Johnson has written in the past.

I don’t know what I am doing differently but I am rocking it in the reading department these days. I am in the middle of my eleventh book since the beginning of the year! I haven’t read at this pace since Connor started high school five years ago.
