A November update from Amy in Alaska.

I’ve been engaged in a beautiful series of collaborative textile art workshops at the Anchorage Museum, made possible in part by a project grant from the Rasmuson Foundation. As of last night, we’ve completed 53 panels, on our way to over 70. Stay tuned for a blog post about that experience.

On December 2, I’m also offering a Family Workshop — Needle & Story — at the Anchorage Museum. There is still space, so local folks with kiddos, click the link to register before it fills right up!

I’m still receiving items for the Inheritance Project, and while I’m not officially crowdsourcing, I’m generally not turning anything away, either…but you may have to sweet talk me. Which is remarkably easy, apparently. For a recent post, see The 26th boxes of mystery.

Inheritance: makers. memory. myth. — the body of work made from these raw materials and powerful narratives sent to me from all over the world — will open at the Anchorage Museum May 2018, then travel to the State Museum in Juneau in December. The collaborative art project, this new mythology created by a new set of makers, will travel with it.

Well done, makers.

You have my deep gratitude for your time, needle skills and stories.

XO Amy

The Authors’ Billboard for 11/03/2017   Tamara Ferguson: FALL INTO THANKSGIVING

FALL INTO THANKSGIVING
By Tamara Ferguson

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and because my family is divided throughout the Midwest, it’s easier for most of us to get together then as opposed to Christmas. Fall foliage makes for a brilliant display here in Illinois, and decorating for the holidays is a pretty big thing in our area of the country. So, as both a former wholesale and retail florist, I’m sharing some methods for preserving greens. PRESERVING FALL FOLIAGE Glycerin/Water Method ….

Lemon Pot tea towels — 14 Mile Farm

These tea towels began as a custom wedding gift order for a bride who dreams of a kitchen with a lemon tree growing in a blue ceramic pot.  They are woven in a variety of advancing twill variations that are intended to evoke the various glaze finishes or fine china patterns found on household

The Queen of Pentacles in the Dye Garden — 14 Mile Farm

The Queen of Pentacles has always been the card I choose to represent myself, whether for a tarot spread, a spell, or just for fun.  Specifically THIS Queen of Pentacles, from this deck (the Morgan-Greer, if you’re curious).  I’m a little bit blown away by just how perfectly these colors wor
