I found plenty of hunting success after I moved from Colorado to Alaska at age 16, and it didn’t take long for elk hunting to drop off my radar. After 20 years in Alaska, I had yet to hunt big game in the lower 48 as an adult, so the irony wasn’t lost on me when I was invited for five days of elk hunting in northern New Mexico with the crew from Barnes Bullets, about an hour from where I grew up hunting in Colorado.
