‘Workin in the Dirt’ was written by Army and Vietnam War veteran David Ronn. David was a combat medic whose job during the war was to treat mass casualties. Instead of tents, Army medical units would work in CONEX boxes dug underground. Along with professional songwriters Austin Evans and Chris Ferrara, David wrote about survivor’s guilt from not saving every troop he treated. For 40 years, he struggled to talk about the trauma he experienced serving in Vietnam. To help change the perception of other veterans who may have similar war experiences, ‘Working in the Dirt’ focuses on all the saved lives and the good that has come from them.
