Anchorage Police Department:  Citizen Police Academy

The Anchorage Police Department Citizen Police Academy program is designed to promote and enhance citizen understanding and awareness of the role of the Anchorage Police Department within our community.

The objective of the course is not to prepare graduates to become police officers, but instead, to instill in citizens a greater general knowledge of the many functions of APD.

To attend citizens must meet the following established criteria: a) participants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and, b) must pass a background investigation check c) must reside within the Municipality of Anchorage.

Participation requires a commitment of one evening a week (on Wednesdays) and one Saturday afternoon for a fourteen (14) week period. Participants will meet on Wednesday evenings for three (3) hours, 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The Saturday afternoon session is from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. In addition, at the participant’s convenience, ride-alongs with a patrol officer and/or observation time in the Dispatch Center may be scheduled.
