WASP Elaine Harmon

Honored to be in Washington DC to witness WASP Elaine Harmon being laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Will likely be lots of national coverage. Check out this podcast for some background on the women if you are interested. http://www.missedinhistory.com/blogs/missed-in-history-women-airforce-service-pilots-part-1.htm

Quotes

Bill Fikes Jr
Dad was a Programmer, he used to keep “Garbage in, garbage out” taped on his keyboard. (it was the early 1960s, not the sort of “keynoard” your using). GIGO is applicable to almost any situation in life, you get out what you put in. “The love you take is equal to the love you make.”

The first use of the term has been dated to a November 10, 1957, syndicated newspaper article about US Army mathematicians and their work with early computers, in which an Army Specialist named William D. Mellin explained that computers cannot think for themselves, and that “sloppily programmed” inputs inevitably lead to incorrect outputs.
“There is almost one time that is important— Now! It is the most important time because it is the only time when we have any power.”
Leo Tolstoy

“The better you feel about yourself, the less you feel the need to show off.”
Robert Hand

Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.
Rumi

We can believe what we choose. We are answerable for what we choose to believe.
John Henry Newman

The things that we love tell us what we are.

Learning never exhausts the mind.

No man’s knowledge here can go beyond his experience.

Alaska Territorial Guard

That total includes at least 27 ATG members who were women. Most women served as nurses at the field hospital in Kotzebue, although at least one woman served the ATG’s primary mission alongside the men. Laura Beltz Wright of Haycock is also noted for being the best sharpshooter in her company, scoring 98% bulls-eyes.

In 2000 all ATG members were granted US veteran status by law, acknowledging the contribution of the ATG, some of whose members are still living.[11] But efforts to find the surviving ATG members and assist them through the application process are difficult due to lack of written records, oral cultures, lack of trained staff, passage of time, and unclear bureaucracies and advocates.

Nevertheless, active correction of the historical record is proceeding through the Alaska Army National Guard, office of Cultural Resources Management and Tribal Liaison (888 248-3682 toll-free) as well as the Office of Veterans Affairs, State of Alaska, PO Box 5800, Ft. Richardson, AK 99505-5800, 907.428.6016 (Office)

Cpl Larry E Smedley USMC Medal of Honor

While war obviously is horrible, this is a riveting account of the heroic actions of my first cousin, Larry Smedley, who died a hero at the age of 18.

Cpl Larry E Smedley USMC Medal of Honor
The story of an 18 year old US Marine from Orlando Florida who was killed in action in Vietnam and awarded the Medal of Honor

Corporal Larry Eugene Smedley (March 4, 1949 – December 21, 1967) was a United States Marine who posthumously received the United States’ highest military decoration — the Medal of Honor — for his actions in December 1967 in Quảng Nam Province, Republic of Vietnam. A huge thank-you to the staff at Chris Kyle Patriots Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. Thank-you for doing a Suicide Prevention Program for soldiers, leaders and their families. The program has gotten great feedback on the awareness and support the attendees have for each other as a result of the training.

Chris was the type of friend other people could trust when they were in pain. I love to see his name on a hospital where they keep working to make a difference for individuals and the family!

God Bless you all as you do your part to love each other through the hard times!

How effective is public shaming?  If people held protests in front of criminals homes and places of business do you believe that will affect a positive outcome?

Brock Turner’s Parents Fear For His Safety

Brock Turner was released from a California jail on Friday after serving only three months for sexually assaulting an unconscious 23-year-old woman at Stanford University.

Does your State have a backlog on Rape Kits?  How are kits prioritized?

Victim’s age, race, gender, or how the investigators feel about the victim or attacker?

Victims have a life sentence. Read that again. Victims of sexual assault carry those events for the rest of their lives. We owe it to ourselves, to them, to get this right.
